Yvonne was born on June 9, 1920 in Montrose, SD. She pursued a career in education, starting off teaching in a one room country schoolhouse. She married John Doss on May 15, 1943, settling in Sioux Falls to raise seven children. Yvonne earned her Master's degree and continued her teaching career at Christ the King school for the next 20 years. Grateful for having shared Yvonne's life are her brother, Denny (Marvia) O'Dea and sister, Donna O'Dea, sons, John (Diane), Daniel (Leslie), David (Colleen) and daughters, Cynthia, Janet (Phil Gumbert), Patty (Tom Schliesman), 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, John, infant daughter Jean Marie and her son, Larry Doss. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials in Yvonne's honor be sent to Sioux Falls Catholic School Scholarship Fund. Visitation will take place at Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 4:30. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon and burial at St. Michaels Cemetery to follow. |
