PJ: Thurs. 2/23/2006: Stanley G. Loomis, 89, of 265 Hazeltime ave., formerly of 98 High Acres, Bemus Point and Ashville died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in his home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born July 8, 1916 in Ashville, the son of Guy and Ethelyn Johnson Loomis.
He was a 1934 graduate of Jamestown High School and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. In earlier years he had owned and operated the Wellman & Loomis Grocery Store in Ashville and later was employed for 14 years at Panama Central School and Ashville Elementary School retiring in 1978.
Stanley was a member of the Lakewood American Legion, Post 1286, the AARP Bowling and Golf leagues. From 1953 -1961 he had served as supervisor for the Town of North Harmony, and was a former member of the Chautauqua County Board of Supervisors of which he served on the Flood Control Committee. He was a former member of the War Vets Recreation Inc., Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Ashville Volunteer Fire Department having served as First Assistant Chief for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene carlson Loomis, whom he married October 11, 1952 in Ashville; two sons, Mark Loomis of Jamestown and Robert Loomis of W. E. Jamestown; three grandchildren, Eric and Daniel Loomis of Jamestown, Nicole Loomis of Warren and a step grandson Jacob McMaster of Jamestown.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Norma Foster.
Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville.
