Grace, Emma's daughter, lived in Robbinston, ME. Graduated from Wheaton College
in Masachusetts as a teacher. Entered a contest for teacher's with the grand prize a trip by
train across the USA to California and back. She won! The train stopped in Providence, and
she visited with some friends and met Townes.
Townes had graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Accounting. He was at
Brown University on a fellowship when he met Grace.
Grace never finished the trip ... married Townes about a month later. How ¿bout that!
Townes taught accounting for a while and then with a partner opened an accounting business
and became one of the most respected accountants in Providence.
So that is how a young woman from Robbinston, ME married a gentleman from Texas.
As for Grace and her mother, Emma, still do not know why they lived separately. I am hoping
to get some insight into that situation later in August when the wife of Emma's great nephew
will be back from her own family reunion in Iowa. This nephew is a descendant of Hedvig
Ingeborg Andersson Lindberg. And, she might possibly have photos!!! And her mother-in-law
is still living at age 95 and is perky, spry and remembers a lot about the old days. I will send
you information on Hedvig's family as soon as I receive in August.
When Emma resettled in New York City (after 1910 but before 1915), she lived in a boarding house and worked as a waitress in some of the finer hotel establishments in the City. I think the boarding house is where she met Bernard Levin whom she eventually married on November 8, 1937, after a very long relationship. Bernie did well in life, and left Emma financially set. Bernie died January 7, 1945 ... and my husband does not know much about what happened as he was off in the service at that time.
