Alberta Rose Parks 1925 ~ 2013 Alberta Rose "Bertie" Parks, 88, passed away on October 21, 2013 in Sparks, Nevada. Bertie was born on May 18, 1925, the fifth of six sisters, in Sparks, Nevada to Albert Jacob and Amelia Bessie Lundberg. She married Robert "Pinky" Parks on November 9, 1946. Their marriage was sealed in the LDS Oakland Temple in 1984. Pinky preceded Bertie in death on April 1, 2010.
Bertie worked at Nevada Bell, Reno Vulcanizing Works, and Sears. After retirement, Bertie and Pinky moved to West Point, CA where together they created and owned a retirement community called "Dunrovin." They eventually sold the retirement park and moved back to Reno.
Bertie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she enjoyed serving in many capacities. Bertie and Pinky served two full-time missions for the Church--the first in Atlanta, GA and the second in Dallas, TX.
Bertie's greatest joy in life was her family. The matriarch of a large and tight-knit extended family, her home was always a place of refuge where the grandchildren and, later, great grandchildren would gather and play games with Grandma Bertie for hours. Bertie and Pinky also loved to camp, fish, and travel in their motorhome. They were always the central part of family vacations and will be sorely missed at annual reunions to Lahontan Reservoir, a [50-year old] family tradition she and Pinky established.
Bertie spent to last few years at Cascades of the Sierra, an assisted living facility in Sparks where she always received excellent care. The family would like to thank the staff who cared for and loved Bertie.
Bertie is survived by her children, Sharon Finn (Mickey), Michael Parks (Marlene), Steven Parks, Guy Parks (Ellen), 14 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 24th, at the LDS Church, 1114 Prater Way, Sparks Nevada, 89431. - See more at: www.legacy.com/obituaries/rgj/obituary.aspx?pid=167649704#sthash.5dsJCefl.dpuf
