Funeral services for Capt. Erik G. Hakansson former commander of the Naval Medical Research Institute at Bethesda, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Arlington Cemetery.
Capt. Hakansson died Monday at the Naval Hospital, Chelsea, Mass., after a brief illness. He was 63.
His home had been in Richmond, Va., since his retirement for physical disability on October 1, 1948.
{\b At Bethesda 5 years
}From 1943, until his retirement, he was medical officer in command of the research institute. In addition, he was chief of the research division of the Navy's bureau of medicine and surgery.
While stationed here, he lived at the Westchester Apartments. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Elisabeth Hakansson, and a daughter, Mrs. Rhonda Elizabeth Pearson.
Capt. Hakansson was born in Sweden, where he recieved his pre-medical education. He was graduated from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1915. After internship at Cook County Hosiptal, Chicago, he was commissioned in the Naval Medical Corps.

{\b In Pearl Harbor
}During World War I he was stationed in the Virgin Islands, where he modernized hospital and sanitary services. After service with several ships and base hospitals, he became chief of medicine aboard the Hospital Ship Solace. He was aboard the Solace at teh Pearl Harbor at the time of the Japanese attack. His next assignment was with the research institute.
Holder of many medals, he was also a member of the American
